Why title tags and meta descriptions matter
Your title tag and meta description are often the first thing someone sees in Google — they directly influence whether people click your result or a competitor's. Google truncates them based on pixel width, not just character count, which is why this tool measures both. A title that reads perfectly in your CMS can still get cut off in search if it's too wide.
As a rough guide, aim for a title under about 580 pixels (roughly 50–60 characters) and a description under about 920 pixels (roughly 150–160 characters). Keep your most important keywords near the front, write for the searcher rather than the algorithm, and make every snippet a clear, compelling reason to click. Note that Google sometimes rewrites titles, so treat this as guidance rather than a guarantee.
